We have 10 miles of varied and productive fishing on the rivers Bladnoch, Cree and Palnure Burn. Much of this fishing is excellent open flywater with well maintained banks and little need to wade. The Bladnoch is unique amongst the Solway rivers in producing a Spring run of Salmon. This is followed by Summer grilse from June on the first spates, with a good build up of fish towards Autumn. The brown trout fishing on the Bladnoch can produce excellent sport particularly on the dry fly. Salmon fishing on the Cree and Palnure can be very rewarding from late Spring onwards. These waters also provide good sea-trout fishing. You will always be shown the beats on your Sunday arrival. Friendly help and advise is happily given by Proprietor Jonathan Haley. Inspite of our extensive fishings we limit the number of rods so all can be given personal attention and are able to enjoy the best of our fishing. A beat rotation sheet is provided to all guests on their arrival. Our fishing costs are amongst the most reasonable anywhere for the quality and quantity of the fishing service offered. This is our deliberate policy to promote regular rebookings. This can be achieved because we own the fisheries and are not committed to expensive annual leases. The visiting angler is always given the opportunity to re-book his week the following year. Please re-book with Jonathan before your departure. A 20% (Approx.) deposit please. Some of the preferred flies are Munroe Killer, Stoats Tail, General Practitioner, Aley Shrimp, Green Highlander etc. Shrimp & Prawn is strictly banned.

The Bladnoch

MOCHRUM PARK BEAT RIVER BLADNOCH This extends to 1 1/4 miles single bank, though pleasant countryside. It is considered amongst the very best on the river with 12 named pools. One of its great attractions is the very short walk to the river from three of our properties. As proprietors of this beat we constantly work to maintain and improve it. The banks are well kept and are easily accessible to excellent open fly fishing for which wading is unnecessary. Although this medium size river benefits from a spate many of its pools are deep holding areas. Some of its best pools are Ashtree, Roger, 40 footer, Market and Nut Bank. You can read reports about this beat in the fishing press. The Bladnoch is written up in Trout & Salmon under the Cree heading. A fishing hut is provided at the middle of our beat.

SAWMILLS BEAT -. RIVER TARFF The river Bladnoch is joined by the Tarff at the meetings'. Most salmon run the Tarff. This 1/2 mile beat, about 5 minutes drive from the houses can be very worthwhile for salmon given water. Excellent for brown trout, especially to the dry fly at anytime.

River Tarff

HIGH & LOW BARNESS FISHINGS RIVER BLADNOCH 2 1/2 miles of single bank fishing 10 minute drive from Mochrum Park. This beat starts at High Barness and continues through Low Barness. At its lower end it is 3/4 mile from the tidal water. As proprietors of this fishing we have carried out extensive work at High Barness to improve the banks and create new fly fishing pools. This is also good brown trout water, extending to Madges Pool which is an excellent holding area for salmon. The river deepens below Madges and is more suitable for spinning. This deep water known as the flats forms the first section of Low Barness beat. Above the Old Torhouse Mill the river starts to fall quickly through rocks, rapids and islands to Harrisons pool and the weir. The weir when fished at the right time in spate can provide a memorable days fishing. The end of the beat is the head of the first extensive holding pool above the tidal water and produces fish especially in Spring. The river below Torhouse Mill should be noted as some of the best Brown Trout fishing in the lower river.

PALNURE BURN We own 2 1/4 miles of the West bank of the burn which is a small tributary of the Lower Cree. In many ways it is its own diverse and separate system and is set in idyllic countryside amidst the Galloway hills. The Palnure is located about 15 minutes drive from Mochrum Park and 5 minutes drive from Broomisle Cottage. The first 11/4 miles downstream from Craignine Bridge is non tidal. The lower mile is tidal and is the most productive on the whole water. It's tidal movements create the effect of regular spates and good catches can be made especially on the Lady Pool which can hold surprising numbers of Salmon and Seatrout even in drought conditions. Fly fishing is possible in open areas, but because of the wooded nature of the burn the most consistent success is had by the skillful use of the worm. It is possible to stalk your fish with great caution. When successful the ensuing fight is something to be experienced, especially as these Palnure fish can be amongst the largest of the whole of the Cree system. Certainly a beautiful, different and fun place to catch migratory fish. This fishery can make an attractive alternative to your beat rota on the main rivers.

Trout fishing

RIVER CREE We own approx. 2 1/2 miles of the Lower Cree. This fishing extends into the tidal waters which can be most beneficial in times of low water. A few Spring fish start to enter the river in early April. Although the river Bladnoch is the main Spring river the Cree is well worth a try for an early fish. Late Spring into summer is the most productive time with often large runs of Salmon/Grilse and Seatrout entering the river about July. Seatrout and Herling provide the fisher with excellent sport at night. Guests staying at our Broomisle Cottage located on the Cree have the added bonus of being able to fish the Cree every morning until 9am. in addition to their rota elsewhere. Although there is little other fishing activity on our bank the association fish the top half of our fishery on the opposite bank.

TROUT FISHERY AT MOCHRUM PARK Located in the grounds behind the Coach House This sport fishery is regularly stocked with good sized Brown and Rainbow Trout for which we make no extra charge. Ideal for the beginner or an alternative evenings fishing.
